Frederick Grote, a travel agent (salesman), was listed in the 1900 directory of a home at 535 Acklin Avenue.  The address was listed as vacant in 1910.   In 1911 William Schaefer of the Schaefer Brokerage Company was the occupant at this address.  His name also appeared in the 1918, 1921 and 1924 city directories.  Mr. Schaefer was the president of the Toledo Travelers Life Insurance Company by 1924. His biography appeared in Toledo & Lucas County Vol. 2 on page 594.  His wife was Luella (Logan) Schaefer.  Their 30 year old son Clarence lived with them in 1920.
