The Epworth Methodist Episcopal Society, organized in 1894, occupied its first house of worship at the corner of Scottwood Avenue and Bancroft Street as early as 1896.  This building was sold in 1907 to the Congregation Shomer Emunim and was renamed the Scottwood Temple.
