2242 Robinwood-Benson McMechen Home

After living on Ashland Avenue, Birchard Hayes, son of President Rutherford B. Hayes, moved to the McMaken-Hayes house, seen in the background. This picture was taken in front of the Milroy house next door.  Hayes' former house in Toledo can be seen on the Ashland page of this website.  Built in 1892 for the sum of $10,000, the first owner was Benson McMechen, the credit manager of the Woolson Spice Company and later, the vice-president of the Toledo Cold Storage Company.  In 1896 Jennie Kelly served the family as the live-in domestic while in 1900 Ama Tobin was employed in that capacity.
