2049 Parkwood

2049 Parkwood Avenue can be seen in this circa 1937 photograph.  Architect Norval Bacon designed this home which was built in 1887 at a cost of $6,000.  An alteration was made in 1899 and again in 1914 (permit 2047).  The 1891 Polk City Directory listed Alexander Backus, the president and treasurer of the Vulcan Iron Works Company, as the resident.   The live-in domestic that year was Mary Witbeck, while Rica Meyers was the domestic listed in the 1900 city directory.  Permit # 2703 allowed for the construction of a music room in the barn.
