2109 Collingwood-John Berdan Home

The John Berdan home at the northwest corner of Collingwood and Floyd streets. In recent years it was known as the Banks nursing home. The front porch no longer exists.  Designed by Fallis and built in 1892 for a sum of $25,000, 2109 Collingwood was occupied by the John Berdan family according to the 1896 city directory.  Mr. Berdan was the president of the Woolson Spice Company and Berdan & Company.  Louis Eckert served as the family's live-in domestic in 1896.  The 1910 directory listed Sinclair Berdan as the resident who employed Martha Henschel as the domestic.
